Tokyo, Hiwatari-sai festival at Mount Takao
"Yamabushi" walks on ashes during a fire walking ceremony (Hiwatari-sai festival in Japanese) which heralds the coming of spring, at Yakuoin Temple on Mt. Takao in the city of Hachioji in western Tokyo, 10 March 2019. Hundreds of faithfull followed "yamabushi" monks and took part in a ceremony for "purifying their minds and bodies" and to pray for good health and safety by walking barefoot across a fire that is smoldering and still partially burning.
