Caraway fruits. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of dried caraway (Carum carvi) fruits. Caraway has an aroma and taste similar to anise. It is used as a spice in cooking and as a flavouring for cheeses and breads. Caraway belongs to the Apiaceae family of plants which includes carrot, celery, parsnip, dill and many other important food crops. Magnification: x15 when printed 10 centimetres wide.
