February 03, 2024 - Setsubun or "Bean throwing" festival held at Zojoji temple in Tokyo, Japan. Setsubun is a traditional Japanese festival celebrated on February 3rd or 4th, marking the end of winter according to the lunar calendar and the beginning of spring. The main ritual of Setsubun involves a practice called "mamemaki," which translates to "bean throwing. During mamemaki, people throw roasted soybeans, called "fukumame", both inside and outside of one's home while shouting " Fuku wa uchi!" which means "Out with demons! In with good luck!"
