Neolithic flint core
Flint core found in the surroundings of the Gava variscite mines, which were active between 4200 and 3400 BCE (Neolithic period) in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. Cores such as this are typically what remained once pieces of flint had been carved out for use as tools. They themselves may also have served as blunt-force tools., by MARCO ANSALONI / SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY
