Disaster Response in Okayama Prefecture
JULY 17, 2018 - People whose homes were damaged or destroyed by flooding take shelter at Okada Elementary School, a temporary shelter for flood victims, in Mabicho, Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture, Japan. More than 200 people died in floods and landslides caused by torrential rains more than a week ago. On Sunday, the government announced the weather event would be designated an extremely severe disaster, freeing up recovery funds for the affected areas.
Cleanup and recovery efforts have been hampered by extreme heat. Temperatures in Okayama Prefecture reached 37 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. (Photo by Ben Weller/AFLO) (JAPAN) [UHU]
